The root cause of the breakout during the pouring process in the crystallizer is that the partially solidified shell of the cast billet is too thin after it exits the crystallizer, which cannot withstand the static pressure of the molten steel and breaks and causes the breakout. Therefore, in order to prevent the occurrence of steel breakout accidents during the continuous casting process, it is necessary to find out the influencing factors of the partial thinness of the solidified shell, which mainly include the following aspects:

⑴Equipment factors:

The crystallizer is severely damaged and loses its taper, and the casting billet is severely de-squared;

Inaccurate arc alignment between crystallizer and secondary cooling section; misalignment between casting stream and crystallizer;

Deformation of the copper mould tube, serious scratches on the inner wall of the copper mould tube, and interruption of liquid film lubrication can also cause the blank shell to hang and tear.

⑵Process operation factors:

For example, the drawing speed is too fast in continuous casing process;

the injection temperature is too high; the nozzle is not centered; the injection is skewed;

the crystallizer liquid level fluctuates too much, the slag is injected, and the cooling intensity of the crystallizer is insufficient.

⑶ Foreign matter or cold steel bites into the solidified shell:

If the liquid level fluctuates too much, the unmelted slag block in the crystallizer will be involved in the solidification shell, and the blockage in the tundish nozzle will flow with the steel to the liquid cavity of the crystallizer, and be captured by the solidification front, resulting in steel breakout.
